Lamb Yakhni

This is a great and yummy recipe for a dish that nearly everyone loves.


1kg of lamb on the bone, preferably shoulder and ribs.

1 cup of yoghurt

3 tbsp cooking oil

3 tsp fennel powder

1tsp ginger powder

2tsp cumin powder

2 black cardamons^

4 crushed green cardamons

2 cloves

3 bay leaves

4 whole peppercorns

salt to taste

1/2 tsp Garam masala

1 small cinnamon stick

Tiny pinch Asafetida


1. Heat oil in a heavy-based pan, add the asafetida, peppercorns, cinnamon stick and bay leaves and then fry for a minute or so.

2. Add the lamb, stir then add water immediately to cover the lamb.

3. Add all the spices and bring to the boil, lower heat and cook until meat is just tender and then add the yoghurt which has been whisked. cook on a lower heat until tender, add salt just before the lamb is ready. Put in some Garam masala and Green Cardamons. ENJOY!
